Zucchero e Pomodori: What from the outside looks like a small, quiet Italian eatery transforms into a surprisingly deep dish of a family Italian restaurant/bar once you enter. In a nod to trendiness, you’ll be greeted by smiling, waifish hostesses who are either beautiful or desperately in need of a cheeseburger, depending upon your personal tastes. Once seated, you’ll have to adjust your chairs to move closer to your companions to be heard—the din rivals that of a junior high school cafeteria. The food is decent and the portions are huge and cheap, at least by Upper East Side standards. The prices, coupled with above-average service from the harried wait staff, make Zucchero e Pomodori worth trying if you’re in the neighborhood...and don’t have a headache. |
