Zenkichi: Imagine dining aboard a dark Japanese train, where you eat privately in a corridor of closet-like compartments paneled by mirrors and served by Japanese waitresses who are summoned at the touch of a button. Intrigued? Of course you are. If you do manage to find this hidden izakaya (Japanese gastropub) quietly hidden on the hipster-riddled 6th Street, you'll come to a roped-off reception area where a Japanese hostess greets you (reservation are recommended). The menu consists of mostly small, experimental plates, and the extensive sake list contains over 50 rare and organic varieties. This place may be perfect for the smoochy couple, but after such a secretive venture, don’t be surprised if you turn to your date to tell them “this never happened.” |
