Yello:
A swanky karaoke lounge? Surely that must be an oxymoron even for the irony-prone hipster set. Yet Yello makes it work. The trendy, mostly Asian-American crowd can be seen and heard belting out tunes from a mind-numbing catalog of American and Asian pop tunes. With Chinese, Italian, and even barbecued bites, the food here is as eclectic as the music. The upstairs portion of this two-floor lounge has enough prerequisite flat-screen televisions to put many sports bars to shame. On the topic of shame, the downstairs boasts a roomy and comfortable atmosphere in which to watch in horror as aspiring Kelly Clarksons and William Hungs butcher Top 40 tunes that initially seemed as though they couldn’t have gotten any worse. During happy hour, well drinks are $4-$7 and beer is buy-one-get-one-free.
