XR Bar: Either XR Bar is a front for some sort of numbers racket—or else the power of some divine force has kept this place in business. XR is a small, well-maintained corner hangout, with so much light it seems truly meant to be a café (both of the street-facing walls teem with long windows that are flung open in nice weather); the problem is that no one ever seems to go in. The non-descript atmosphere and generic hip-hop, reggae, and soul music selection that’s played a little too loudly here would be better suited for a larger space that encourages dancing and excessive macking. There’s truly nothing memorable about this neighborhood bar, but maybe its lifeline is the locals who are sick of overcrowded West Village drinkeries. Go figure. |
