Xing: A Midtown portal into the Far East, minus fireworks and dragon boat festivals, Xing makes a new taste out of old flavors with dishes like the Peking Duck Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette ($11). A restaurant with late nights Thursday through Saturday (open until 2am), this new kid opens for lunch and sports a traditional Chinese menu that’s prepared in a wok kitchen, which means the food is fired up immediately, so you might not get your General Tso’s ($12) or XO Seafood ($17) in the order you placed it. But that’s why they have their specialty drink “electric karma” ($10) served in a Buddha doll—relax! Or you can munch on complimentary (and addictive) fried wontons. As beats bop in the background, the atmosphere seems dominated by lively conversation. (FYI, Xing is pronounced “shing.”) |
