White Slab Palace: White Slab Palace gives the LES a Scandinavian edge with all the cool and none of the cold. No need to travel to Stockholm to sample the frozen aquavit--it's the bar and restaurant's specialty. And, to much relief, you'll find there's no chilly hipster attitude in the patrons. The crowd comes mostly for two main reasons. There's the appeal of the Swedish fare, featuring the likes of herring and homemade yogurt. Then there's the issue of its corner location (the large, beckoning windows help). Walk-ins tend to be attractive after-work types, artists and tourists with an eye for design. They may come for the woodwork and candle-lit setting, but they'll be staying for a Bloody Beet or two. |
