Westside Brewing Company:
The vibe of this pub has about as much appeal for local Manhattanites as your average suburban Elk’s Lodge. Plus, the typical American fare—burgers and buffalo wings—is nothing to write home about, and the service is as lackluster as the interior. But a new generation of beer snobs will be sated with the selection of over 40 varieties, including local brews from Brooklyn and Chelsea breweries. Imports from as far as Japan and Germany offer patrons ales and lagers that are as tongue-twisting as they are tongue-tingling; try ordering a third or fourth round of the 16-ounce Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier and you’ll have a newfound respect for the flustered waitresses who somehow seem to keep so many brands straight despite the omnipresent beer goggles and word-slurring.
