Waterfront Ale House: Who knew ale could be so stale? Set far off the riverside in a tired corner of Murray Hill, the Waterfront Ale House is about as blah as it gets. Don’t be fooled by the name—waterfront views don’t abide here, unless you count the plate-glass windows facing a Kips Bay shopping plaza. And the misnomers don’t stop there; sadly, this sleepy bar shares none of the charm of its sister institution in Brooklyn. No live jazz. No snazzy BBQ. No young Brooklynites. Just an ESPN-centric TV, some bland pub grub, and an ever-present crew of old booze hounds staring blankly into their pints. Yeah, there’s a lot of ale, and it’s reasonably priced during happy hour (Mon-Fri, 4pm-7pm). At least the bar kept up that part of the bargain, because on all other counts, it’s a deal-breaker. |
