Walter Foods: It may sound more like a grocery store than a restaurant, but Walter Foods is actually a sort of raw bar-saloon. Past the heavy wooden double doors is a nostalgic, pre-Prohibition-style Williamsburg spot, so get ready to hang up your coat and and kick it old-school style. Waiters rush around in black bow ties, but this place is anything but pretentious. You won’t find any cultural influences here other than the American kind: the menu is made up of basic comfort foods available year-round—fried chicken, lobster and steak—with a couple of specials a night to spice things up. The cocktail menu is substantial, but drinker beware—the bartender makes ‘em strong. Open Sun.-Thu. 5:30pm-1am, Fri.-Sat. 5:30pm-2am.
