Walkers: It’s not surprising to hear that the space that Walker’s has occupied for 18 years has (since 1892) featured some manner of drinking establishment. Even on your first visit, it’s hard to imagine anything here that’s less than authentic. Wooden floors and just-so decorations make up the homey front room, with its smattering of tables and a long, comfortable bar leading off into dining rooms filled with smiling couples watched closely by the friendly staff. The prices are a pleasant surprise as well ($5 beers, $7 wines) and the menu is mostly American fare (delicious roasted organic chicken, $13.25). Gaping windows showcase this pleasant little corner, providing passersby with a view inside of what could be a museum exhibit called, “Taking Care of the Locals.” |
