Waikiki Wally's: This kitschy tiki palace (featuring a working waterfall and tropical murals) conveniently attached to drag queen mainstay and Chinese restaurant Lucky Cheng’s is downtown’s best tropical getaway. With the requisite fruity drinks coming in three sizes—mug, volcano, or scorpion bowl—bemused locals and adventurous tourists alike gather here to lose their inhibitions and eventually wipe out. If the packed bar isn’t your scene, grab a table in one of the cave-like rooms and enjoy some Polynesian fare under the watchful eye of a tiki mask; the prix-fixe menus are served family-style and meant for sharing. Waikiki Wally’s may be a bit too gimmicky to be your regular drinking hole, but it definitely makes a great vacation spot. Wally’s also hosts pig roasts for your private luau. |
