Voodoo Sports Lounge: Here''s a philosophical question: How much sports is too much sports for a sports bar? This question arose during a Sunday night at Park Slope''s Voodoo Sports Lounge, where 10 televisions'' worth (roughly one per patron) of the same preseason NFL football contest cast a dull glow across the dark, long, narrow bar. So if you go out seeking to avoid things like music and conversation—or even, apparently, baseball highlights—just stroll down Fifth Avenue and look for the giant American flag out front. Enjoy, oh, an Amstel Light and take in the diner-quality fixtures as stock "old Brooklyn" photographs hang on exposed brick walls. Hey, the Slope needs townie bars too, and the occasional pool-playing lesbian couple does give the place some much-needed gender parity. Besides, if you think about it, O''Connors might very well have been the pits when it was new, too. Maybe check back in 50 years. |
