Village Vanguard:
The Village Vanguard is a treasured New York City landmark chock-full of history and first-rate jazz. Repeat this to yourself when you’re handing over a $25 cover and a $10 drink minimum. All of the greats have played or recorded at this “jazz center of the universe”—from Sonny Rollins to John Coltrane to Thelonious Monk—making it an absolute must-hit destination on any out-of-towner’s “to do” list. But the Vanguard is well-loved by locals as well; they’ve been coming here to see the best sing the blues or jam and wail with the best of ’em since the Vanguard opened 70 years ago. And yes, some of the patrons are that old.
I was a guest at the Barbra Striesand concert last month at the Village Vanguard, and I wanted to tell you how neat that jazz club was! It definately has the feel of old New York. The accoustics were amazing! I would recommend this to everyone!

Cliche it may be, but I dont care. This place plays the best music of any place I know in NYC. And yes, I do know quite a few places. The prices may set you back a bit, but dont let that spoil your night. Listen to the music and relax. I always bring out of town friends here, and I have never had a complaint.
