Village Tavern: Come playoffs time, Red Sox fans usually take over this neighborhood favorite. Not that Yankees fans aren’t wanted, but last time we checked, Red Sox and Yankees fans co-mingling usually ends in knuckle sandwiches and trips to the emergency room. Equally competitive are the Big Buck II and Golden Tee videogames which separate the rednecks from the country club-types. This West Village bar has a sophisticated list of Scotches and bourbons to complement the many beers on tap. Don’t confuse the Village Tavern with a boring sports bar, though; the clientele is a delightfully mixed bag, and everyone’s ready to have a grand old time…just as long as the Sox are winning. |
