Via dei Mille: Giving nearby perpetual Italian hotspot Cipriani Downtown a run for its money, Via Dei Mille has just opened on West Broadway. The Italian eatery comes courtesy of Barry Mullineaux (Stereo) and Giuseppe Tuosto (Rocco's a la Playa in the Hamptons), so it’s no surprise that everyone in the upbeat surroundings seems to be gearing up for a long night of revelry. The casual-chic joint, which doubles as an art gallery with a rotating selection of paintings, has a roomy bar with an extensive cocktail list ($13-14), including a selection of Champagne drinks served in stylish glasses. Our favorite, the Peach Mellini, takes direct aim at Giuseppe Cipriani, creator of the Bellini. As for the food, there’s no shortage of rustic northern Italian eats concocted by chefs Emanuele Simenoi (Barbaluc). And hey, unlike the food at Cipriani, it's actually edible! Try the baby cuttlefish with soft polenta ($12), the handmade cheese and spinach ravioli ($14), and the Grilled Salmon filet ($20). Open Sun.-Thurs., 11am-12am, Fri.-Sat., 11am-2am. |
