Vesta: Upscale on the outside, with mysterious metal double doors and a velvet rope, Vesta looks like the latest Meatpacking-migrated-north scene. But once inside, the lounge is reminiscent of one of those people who takes an entire season’s worth of trends and wears them all at once; it’s trying too hard. Recently opened inside the former spot of a doomed restaurant, the no-man’s-land location, overpriced drinks, and trendy-but-not-quite-making-it interior are turn-offs in a neighborhood with so many venues to choose from. The light hardwood floors, airy white, sheer drapery, white vinyl banquettes, and enough psychedelic disco lights to pass as a laser show are thrown off by the row of three widescreen TVs playing behind the bar. Like a frat party crossed with a chi-chi lounge, or a Kahlua and cranberry juice, some things just don’t mix. |
