Vertigo Bar & Restaurant: There’s nothing dizzying about Vertigo Bar & Restaurant, except for how fast it went from a dime-a-dozen local Irish pub to a comfortable, semi-swanky lounge. There are no traces left of the Abbey Tavern, and it’s just as well, as Murray Hill could use a place like this. With flat-screen TVs, plush bar chairs, large tables, and an extensive menu (including delicious squash ravioli, and steak tenderloin with huge onion rings), this is somewhere you can take a date, join your parents for brunch, or meet up with a group of friends. They have an impressive beer selection, but you'll be just as happy sipping a perfectly tart margarita. Happy hour from 4pm-7pm daily brings patrons to drunken heights with specials like $4 domestic beers and $5 imports, as well as $5 mixed drinks, while outdoor seating in warm weather is a goldmine for locals. If this is what Vertigo feels like, bring it on. |
