Veritas: Veritas has a wine list with 6.2 million wines. Well, 2,700, actually, but the list is so thick that during the next blackout, you can burn it for kindling and stay warm for a month. This is a reservations-essential restaurant (and a fancy one at that—a prix fixe dinner runs $68), but walk-in guests are free to claim one of about 6 seats at the bar to sample the wines and the accompanying New American food. The seats are coveted, so prepare to wait. A small, rotating list of wines by the glass ranges from the Schafer Frohlich Riesling ($10) to a Rubicon Cabernet Sauvignon ($19). Happily, expansiveness doesn’t mean expense—there are plenty of bottles around $20 for the aspiring snob. |
