Vera: Can we be Frank? And we don’t mean “honest,” we mean “Can we be very popular with scenesters, families, and couples the way that this East Village Italian restaurant is?” This always crowded eatery is locally famous for its Italian fare, and Vera, its neighboring bar, isn’t so bad either. Never have hipsters and socialites coexisted so peacefully. This wee bar often overflows with diners who drown their impatience in wine while waiting for a table to become available next door, so despite the hipper-than-thou impression you may first experience, you won’t be required to name three Bravery tunes for service. For a hipper scene still, not to mention formidable oven-baked pizza, try Frank and Vera’s brother, Little Frankie’s and its cool Big Cheech bar. |
