Uva: Upper Eastsiders, rejoice. In a neighborhood where Mo’s Caribbean is a culinary standout, a wine bar with great pours and excellent Italian fare has finally arrived, thanks to the owners of UES establishments Lusardi’s, Luke’s, and Willie’s. The inviting bar up front blends into the rustic candlelit atmosphere of the brick-lined dining room, where attentive servers are ready to answer questions about the extensive wine list (glasses start at $7.50; bottles at $22) or the menu of hearty Italian dishes (like the fantastically rich gnocchi in a black truffle sauce, $15). A backyard patio promises romantic dinners and leisurely chats over espresso when the weather is right. For now, we’ll take the cozy warmth of the bustling main room inside. And another glass of vino, please. |
