Up Over Jazz Café: 
Despite its “up over” claim, this old-school jazz club gives off a serious underground vibe. The club’s devoted patrons sip Manhattans and order po’ boys while swaying to the sounds of smooth sax and rim shots—the only thing missing are the cigarette girls and cocktail dresses. True jazz lovers come for the legendary headliners and unwitting first-timers always get a warm welcome. Brooklynites (who thrive on boasting their culture savvy) come for the Hip Hop Jazz nights, where the young folks spew their classic jazz facts and the older cats bust out their best street lingo. Listeners happily fork over the $10 cover charge and most go well beyond their one-drink minimum.
