Union Hall: A spin-off of sister bar Floyd, NY, and boasting twice as many indoor bocce courts (two), Union Hall is the latest in roomy, stately bars in the Park Slope area with the promise of a pleasant time. The beautiful Hall greets you with large picture windows, cushioned chairs, bookshelves full of outdated medical texts, walls adorned with paintings of stodgy fellows, a menu of upscale American bar food, and of course, furious but friendly bocce contests. And if you think this place isn't taking the grand game seriously, they even have a pressed-ham sandwich named the Pallino (look it up). Even as a newbie, the Hall is routinely packing them in, but don't be fooled if it seems crowded from the sidewalk. Down an inconspicuous set of stairs in back, another small room awaits you with empty seats, a smallish stage, an auxiliary bar, and a stuffed pheasant in a display case. |
