Underbar @ W Hotel- Union Square: There’s something a little unsettling about referring to a room as sexy. Unless you’re referring to the steamy-hot Underbar, that is. With curtains covering private side rooms plus floor-to-ceiling frosted glass bathroom stalls, you could literally have sex there—but please don’t. And then there are the candles and candelabras providing small amounts of flickering light so you can hardly make out the faces of the waitresses, who wear black miniskirts and matching go-go boots. An after-work crowd heads down below the chic W Hotel to chat on velvety ottomans, sofas, and barstools while cutting the edge off the work week with a cocktail. On weekends the crowd looks sophisticated, but occasionally dolled-up co-eds slip in. There’s no food on the menu, but cocktails offer meal-like flavor options; try the lemon basil martini, or the garnish-heavy mango mint mojito. |
