Turkey's Nest: A townie bar grows in Brooklyn at Turkey’s Nest, where a 32-oz. glass of beer is served in a Styrofoam cup for $3.50 and the Quick Draw lotto games draw as much attention as the sports airing on the TVs. The décor is a cross between a pizza parlor (linoleum floors) and the basement of your best friend’s house in junior high (wood-paneled walls, darts, pool tables, beer mirrors, and a dank scent). There are also arcade games, a hypnotic new-school jukebox, and an old-school phone booth to hold your attention if the beer doesn’t tide you over the way it does for the rest of the mixed dive crowd. At least its location across from McCarren Park is a few steps outside of the hipster hubbub surrounding the L train hubs. |
