Trattoria Cinque: Don't you just love a Top 5 list? Trattoria Cinque certainly does, as the retro, Italian-inspired eatery seems to have based both their name and their whole operation around it. No matter the drinking or dining category, your choices stop at five. Okay, seems a little gimmicky—is this a Tribeca restaurant or an E! countdown show?—but it sure makes ordering a little less fraught with indecision. We can't vouch (yet) for the entrees, but that's because we stuffed ourselves with appetizers (Arinici de Riso, $9, a generous Frittura Mista, $14) and gratis chunks of pecorino from the giant wheel barside. That might make this a Top 5 place with free cheese. Drinkwise, we suggest sipping the Sanguinoso Campari (made with blood orange juice, $12) or the Bellini Cinque (made with peach puree, also $12). As for Trattoria's interior, it's bathed in exposed brick, dark wood, red, yellow, and subtle racing stripes, all uniting in a giant nod to '60s Italian auto racing. The result is just the right touch of informality and comfort, although don't let that fool you: Free cheese or not, you'll be "cinque"ing some bucks into your night here. |
