Tierra: CLOSED.
How’s this for a tongue twister? Since the name Terroir was already taken in the city’s wine-and-tapas circuit, Tasca’s new owners have gone with Tierra. And just as likely to give your tongue a workout, chef Franklin Becker—of Sheridan Square next door—has put together a menu of international dishes that are anything but traditional. Sure there’s cheese, but wine pairings are also suggested for more adventurous options such as mushrooms stuffed with dates ($5), escargot confit skewers ($8), and lamb kibby with pomegranate and pine nuts ($7). Most of the wine selection, chosen by Sterling Roig, is $8-$10 by the glass, making Tierra an affordable destination, even if your date works in finance. With luck, after a few glasses here you’ll be doing some tongue twisting of your own. |
