The Yard: If you’re like most New Yorkers, your Sundays are probably spent brunching, re-watching Julia Roberts flicks on TBS, or sleeping off your Saturday night. But thanks to The Yard, the oasis/venue on the banks of the Gowanus Canal, Sundays have a purpose again. The outdoor space host events Fridays and Saturdays too, but their all-ages “Sunday Best” parties, with resident DJs and headlining guests, are where it’s at. You can get down from 3-9pm for $8, and fill up on organic BBQ from Brooklyn’s Sweet Deliverance and $3 PBR cans (or $6 Stellas and Brooklyn drafts). The “venue” itself is caught somewhere between backyard and junkyard (one word: Port-O-Potties), but the canal-side views and enthusiastic, fashionable crowd make it a class act. Think of it as the cool party you don’t have to crash to get in. |
