The Wine Bar: This place seemed to be headed nowhere when its name was the Candy Café, but now that new owners have shrewdly left the kiddy sign above its door in place, the irony makes it all the sweeter. Pun intended. This new wine bar comes from the owners of Park Slope and Cobble Hill Israeli eateries Miriam. Is there a thematic connection? Apparently not. But the candy concept takes on new meaning when you can sample about 120 bottlings from all over the world, along with small plates of traditional charcuterie, cheeses, and olives. Now this is a grown-up’s idea of a treat. Thanks to the location, you’ll get lots of locals stopping by for a quaff, as well as the chic ad agency crowd on weekday evenings. Put on your trendy gear and be prepared to banter accordingly. |
