The Wheeltapper Pub: Take a ride on the Irish Amtrak, or at least feel like you’re a kid visiting a train museum with your parents—except this time, while drinking. Wheeltapper’s décor is more polished than your generic Irish pub, but bizarrely specific. Antique-looking architecture and dark wood creates quaint nooks for semi-private dining and drinking, and along with real artifacts like drivers’ seats and mileposts, gives the impression that you’re at a turn-of-the-century Irish railroad station. Especially popular for lunch among local workers and commuters, as well as visitors at the attached Fitzpatrick Hotel, the grub is upscale comfort food, with $16 cheeseburgers and $10 fancy cocktails. But for you Irish pub purists, a regular claims “the Guinness just tastes better here.” |
