The Wheeltapper Pub
Take a ride on the Irish Amtrak, or at least feel like you’re a kid visiting a train museum with your parents—except this time, while drinking. Wheeltapper’s décor is more polished than your generic Irish pub, but bizarrely specific. Antique-looking architecture and dark wood creates quaint nooks for semi-private dining and drinking, and along with real artifacts like drivers’ seats and mileposts, gives the impression that you’re at a turn-of-the-century Irish railroad station. Especially popular for lunch among local workers and commuters, as well as visitors at the attached Fitzpatrick Hotel, the grub is upscale comfort food, with $16 cheeseburgers and $10 fancy cocktails. But for you Irish pub purists, a regular claims “the Guinness just tastes better here.”

What an awful experience! Our Saturday evening pre-theatre meal was overpriced and overcooked. The only 2 people in the restaurant, yet the staff engaged in rearranging furniture around us in preparation for a group booking. Definitely a zero star rating. (System doesn't accept zero, apparently).

Stay far FAR away!

This was the worse dining experience I have had in NYC. IT DESERVES NO STARS! We were a large group of 30 doing our football draft. We spoke with management 3 seperate times asking if they could accomidate us of which they said absolutely. When we arrived they placed us in a small area, we asked to turn down the music so we could hear and we were told "this is not a library." Later on the US open was on in the 5th set and the bartender switched it to the Yanks game in the 2nd inning (and they are not even in the playoffs this year). We asked to switch it back until the set was over (which was all of 5 mins) and i was told by the bartender she didn't like our attitude. I could see their point if we were loud and obnoxious but we were all into the draft and very focused. The food was subpar and expensivie. We spent almost $2000 and they even charged us for every diet coke. We only had beer in large buckets so the bartender had to do no work (we were orginally told we could have pitchers but upon arrival that was denied). This place cleary does not want the business. I'm still dumbfounded by the rudeness we experienced. We could not get out of there fast of enough.

I love it!!!!!!

Great a new review on one of my favorite Irish pubs! This is a real bar with a real Irish ambiance! The best time is after work on Thursday! The place is perfect to get a beer and one of the best Sheperd's pie!!!!!!!

Amazing!!

I just discovered the Fitzpatrick Grand Central hotel's new private outdoor patio! It is amazing - a total detachment from Manhattan - which reasonable cocktails and great Irish food too! Also, for single ladies (I am recently engaged) - this is one of the best kept secrets for where to meet men!! Seriously, come 6PM the Wheeltapper restaurant and outdoor patio are packed with young, good looking suits from the surrounding neighborhoods! This place is perfect for summer fun!

Disappointing

I work in midtown, and wanted to get lunch somewhere with an outdoor area. At Wheeltapper, "outdoors" is in a dark crevice between tall buildings. Not nice. My dining companion nearly choked on a piece of toothpick buried in her $16 club sandwich, and I had to go out of my way to request to get it taken off of the bill. The chips that accompanied our sandwiches were inedible, and my beer glass had a large crack in it. There are many good Irish pub/restaurants in midtown and this has to be the absolute worst
