The Waverly Inn: We’ve all heard the hype, and we admit that getting into this elitist West Village “country club” of sorts is nigh impossible unless you’ve got some kind of connection. But once all the fuss dies down (and it will), the Waverly Inn will be nothing more than what it is: a gorgeous old New York-style restaurant and bar, a la the 21 Club uptown. The food and drinks are simple and classic, a mix of French and American with a killer wine list, all somewhat overpriced, but hey, it’s the West Village! Everybody is “somebody” in this shadowy old tavern—even if you don’t know their names. And once you’re in, you’re a somebody too; so revel in those curious stares on your way to the bathroom. |
