The Warsaw
Everyone should see their first rock show in a venue like this. Greenpoint’s Warsaw (aka the Polish National Home) looks like an old gymnasium or a turn-of-the-century theater that has been converted into a concert venue. The space is enormous, the bands are top-notch (Frank Black, the Decemberists, the New Pornographers), and the crowds are genuinely excited to be here, further personifying its youthful, nostalgic vibe. Warsaw’s main space is connected to a smaller one which houses a bar and a restaurant, where old Polish women serve up cheap beers in plastic cups and hot pierogies. There’s even a balcony in the back of the concert space where you can sneak off to escape the crowds. Poles haven’t been this much fun since strip clubs.
