The Speakeasy: There's no secret knock or zoot-suited gorilla demanding a password at the Speakeasy, so flappers and Gatsby-wannabes risk disappointment. Otherwise, you'll find that the simple and elegant atmosphere matches the menu, which is not huge or filled with surprises, but does offer comfort food classics with a little bit of international flair. No wonder: The Speakeasy's chef is Josie Smith-Malave from Top Chef. The adventurous (or calorie-counting) can have the poached miso salmon with wasabi mashed potatoes, but we're sticking with the namesake dish—the Speakeasy, a 16-oz. Ribeye loaded with baked potato or potato wedges. They do have a veggie burger, but bringing a vegetarian here would be as useless as buzzing a teetotaler into the old Chumley's. |
