THE SKINnY: Appropriately named, this narrow Lower East Side bar feels as though it’s been in this neighborhood since bohemia ran amuck. The truth is, the egalitarian SkinNY opened around the time velvet ropes started going up over here. Local artists are represented by an abundance of paintings hanging on every wall. They’re rewarded with cheap drink specials like Thursday’s $20 open bar from 6pm-9pm and Monday-Wednesday’s 5pm-9pm two-for-one deal. The party from night to night changes as well, always feeling very “downtown.” Sometimes it’s disco, sometimes it’s rock, and sometimes it’s something you probably haven’t heard of, but within five seconds the theme becomes apparent and rest assured, for better or worse, it will be like that until 4am. While sitting at the bar is more social, terrace seating behind the DJ is more private. |
