The Randolph at Broome: The Randolph at Broome used to be a straight up honky tonk. Now after a little revamp, it’s styled as (what else?) a speakeasy, complete with live ragtime piano and crafty cocktails by Milk & Honey vet Matty Gee. Using seasonal ingredients and ultra-cold liquor (along with frozen glassware and Kold-draft ice), cocktails are the epicenter of the bar’s offerings—there’s just three bottles on the beer menu. The Eastside (gin, mint, lime juice, and cucumber) is especially refreshing. A Thursday night party called “The Hunt” brings out a mostly-singles crowd, but on weekends, guys will have a hard time getting past the door unless they have a few dolls with them. On second thought, maybe this isn’t a speakeasy—the velvet rope kind of gives it away. |
