The Modern: Danny Meyer finally lets uptowners skip the 6 train. Now, they can flag a cab over to his new restaurant at the re-opened MOMA, where Chef Gabriel Kreuther is breathing life into the otherwise drab world of museum dining and drinking. Up front in the Bar Room, reasonably priced plates are divided into ones, twos, and threes, presumably telling you how many people they will feed; order a bottle of wine no matter how many people are in your group. Flusher clientele prefer to sit in the back to enjoy the three-course prix fixe for $74 as they overlook the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller sculpture garden. The food is as fine as the art next door, with Kreuther creating French-influenced masterpieces nightly. Try it all: the front room, the backroom, the food, the wine, and the desserts. Unlike the museum, the only line you’ll be waiting on belongs to the phone, because reservations are a must. Fortunately, however, this is one list you won’t have to shell out too much cash to be on. |
