The Grand: CLOSED.
Whether it be Au Bar, 58, or its current incarnation, The Grand, this space is what it is: a destination spot for uptowners and B&Ts with disposable incomes and conservative expectations. Top promoters stock the room with pretty girls, finance industry types come en masse knowing a high credit limit assures entry, and DJs spin a safe mix of hip-hop and '80s stuff that everyone on W. 27th Street was playing at this time last year...or the year before. While jetsetters might read that as a criticism, it’s a godsend for men who don’t care about fashion or art and women wanting to meet single guys that make money and don’t mind spending it on life’s less complicated things. The Grand’s dark subterranean confines are sprawling and sprinkled with handsome low-slung red sofas upon which seasoned partygoers will occasionally try and dance until bouncers come by, all but saying, “Where do you think you are? SoHo?” |
