The Gibson Room @ Patroon: Midtowners craving the posh cocktail scene will be thankful for this old-school ritzy lounge. Surrounded by private rooms, and decked with a swanky art deco-paneled ceiling, this plush watering hole seems like the set for a deal making scene from the golden age of Hollywood. In the current century, however, it's the perfect escape route when rain or bad weather put a damper on the rooftop bar scene upstairs. Of course, diehard cigar smokers have been known to hide out under the umbrellas in spite of the weather, leaving the ladies below to chatter and check out the artwork (which is not bad) adorning the walls. There’s also a delightful aroma of tobacco wafting in from the humidors which hold, of course, the house stock of hand-rolled Dominicans. |
