The Gael Pub: No one was as surprised as us to find that this standard Upper East Side Irish pub can be, depending on the night, a great bar. True, it’s unlikely to dazzle anyone who’s lived in New York longer than five minutes, but what it lacks in style it makes up for in substance. Twelve beers are on tap, poured cold and reasonably priced—most pints are $6. Check out Tuesday’s popular quiz night for a $50 bar prize, but make sure to arrive at least an hour early to ensure seating. An inviting place to throw back a few cold ones in front of eight flatscreen TVs or a big screen projector, you could do worse on game day. |
