The Creek Bar @ Eight Mile Creek: The Creek is Australian for bar. Like the restaurant upstairs, this basement spot stays true to its roots, with kangaroo kabobs on the menu and football (World Cup, not Super Bowl) on the telly. Even the bartenders are authentic and, for the record, hot (of course, they’ve got the accent thing going for them). The subterranean space, a former bakery, is small but somehow manages to feel like three different little bars: The front is red and loungey; in the middle, by the bar, is a smattering of tables as always, it seems, a few drunk lassies dancing to a wall-mounted jukebox; while tucked away in the back is a cozy, candlelit nook by an old brick oven. Don’t miss the cozy back beer garden. It’s an understandable favorite for those from down under… Houston. |
