On the quiet end of Havemeyer, The Brooklyn Star is a gem that stands out next to its residential and industrial neighbors. The restaurant is friendly and charming, and the management isn’t afraid to blast a little reggae. Beer and wine lovers take note, their liquor license is arriving soon. Local oysters topped with barbecue sauce share the menu with excellent homemade buttermilk biscuits. It’s soul food meets hipster heaven. Owner Joaquin Baca (Momofuku, Rusty Digs) decided to ditch his old Manhattan digs for a more laid back atmosphere. A huge communal table serves as centerpiece for the Star, while a wood burning oven completes the hearth and home vibe.
