The Blarney Stone: Is it possible for a bar to be endangered? In the ’60s, there were almost 30 Blarney Stone pubs in New York. Now there’s just a handful—not that this city is short on Irish pubs. The 47th Street locale is still hanging tough. Neon green lights hang over the long, narrow bar, awaiting the theater crowd and happy hour onslaught. A steam table full of Irish delights like corned beef and cabbage is on hand from 10am-10pm and won’t cost you more than 10 bucks a helping. Loyal regulars tend to stay put all day, apparently having grown immune to the smell of stale beer mixed with cooked cabbage that wafts through the air. After a few shots of Jameson you will too. Yeah, it’s a dive, but a classic. |
