The Blarney Stone: It’s cafeteria-meets-dive-bar in this out-of-the-way establishment at the very bottom of Manhattan. Seriously, it’s a big trek south, but you can’t miss the bright green awning announcing the Irishness of the bar in the distance. A true “Place for the People,” there’s a dining area reminiscent of a college cafeteria. It’s a frat guy’s wet dream—noshing on burgers and fries on a plastic tray while chugging a Guinness—but it’s also a reliable place for locals and regulars to sip away workday woes or just catch up. A giant mural of downtown and the World Trade Center covers the back wall, and brightly lit stained glass panels above the bar cast some colorful light.
