The Bitter End: If Village bars were rappers, The Bitter End would be an original gangsta. Considering the fate of so many of the clubs that formerly lined the blocks of the Village, this respected venue breathes sweet history into the ear. This is the club that took charge in bringing live quality music—that wasn’t jazz—to the city. While Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan are no longer regulars, Kenny, the revered owner since 1968, works just as hard to make sure the new bands don’t disappoint. During the week record labels send their R&D teams to The Bitter End in search of the next buzz band and/or performer. Ever passionate, Kenny gives 100% of the door fee to the band, a modern-day rarity. And because those door fees are so reasonable, you have nothing to lose but a little pocket change. |
