The Beekman: A wooden plaque parallel to the bar proclaims “Cead Mile Failte,” which is to literally say in Gaelic “One-hundred thousand welcomes.” Certainly a pleasant and hospitable ambiance reigns at The Beekman. Authenticity is permeating, not mere posturing at this Irish bar: UK football games are aired while patrons mutter about the Celtic/Rangers rivalry in their Hiberno-English tongue; U2 and The Commitments soundtrack play in the background; and a solid list of pub food (predominantly anchored by fish) is capped with the delicious “Irish Sausage w/ mash, gravy + onions,” a generous helping of four smothered links. The homey bar also has an assortment of gambling machines like the Quick Draw monitor. Aside from the bar, a large dining room is available. Happy hour (5pm-7pm, Monday-Friday) boasts daily specials like $2 imperial pints or 2-for-1 appetizers. |
