The Anchor: It's hard to tell if The Anchor is the average Joe bar for socialites or the socialite bar for the average Joe. But drinks like the D. Stahl (named for Nylon Mag’s editor, gag) and Bijou’s Crack (Phillips) seem to indicate it’s somewhere in between. Don't be a fooled by the clientele of starfuckers, publicists, and media hoes. The lodge-esque atmosphere with wood paneling, antler chandeliers, and Americana wallpaper is inviting; that is, if you have the cash to throw back $10 a drink. The Anchor’s team of owners, made up of publicists and designers (eye roll), sought out to revive NYC nightlife, and they could be on to something. The space is simple, no frills, and following the “clandestine speakeasy” trend of the moment, it took them six months to get a phone, natch. |
