The 40/40 Club: Isn’t that Jay-Z’s hot sports-inspired club? The line down the block that forms every weekend screams a “hell, yes.” Inside, the décor—including a handful of mod coconut-esque chairs suspended from the ceiling and pillow-decked sofas built into the steps—is undoubtedly extravagant. Expect to see a TV at every angle tuned to numerous ESPN stations while they show the playoffs on a movie-theater-sized screen above the bar. The soundtrack is, of course, hip-hop and although the whole place gets swanky come the weekend, the über-elite can drop their cash on a second-level VIP room, which has plush couches and more private sports viewing amenities—one room is even a legitimate puffer’s haven cigar lounge. On weeknights, there’s less booty-shaking and more watching the game over your date’s shoulder. But don’t forget the menu, which includes fancy noshes like buttermilk coconut gambas and cows-in-a-blanket—which, surprisingly, has more credibility than you’d guess. |
