Taste: Self-service café by day, sophisticated candlelit restaurant and wine bar by night, Taste errs on the fancy side. But after all, this is the Upper East Side, and its olive drab walls and dark marble bar do make it a bit murky. The wine list is expansive not only in offerings but also in the regions it spans. Taste’s menu is impressive and changes slightly from day to day; on offer are the likes of Taku River King salmon, sardines with tabbouleh, and salad with endive and pecorino croutons. Dig the tasty complimentary olives on the bar, but otherwise be prepared to spend. Consider boning up on your wine vocabulary before bringing a date. |
