Table 8: After several years of construction, the phallic, ultra-sleek glass oddity that is the new Cooper Square Hotel, would look more at home in South Beach than halfway between St. Mark's Place and where the CBGBs once reigned. Would Joey Ramone roll over in his grave at this reinvention of the Bowery, or just shrug and say party on? Inside, hot L.A. chef Govind Armstrong's anticipated Table 8 restaurant is finally open. It serves up a mix of seafood, small plates, and healthy, locally-inspired dishes in the buzzing, (sometimes overly loud,) main dining room. You can pre-game in the dark, stylish front bar, but don't forget to take the elevator up to the second floor for an after dinner drink. The striking interiors don't fail to impress, and the welcoming staff seems relieved to be under way. This is a definite potential hotspot. |
