T Bar Steak & Lounge: Surprisingly enough, you’re about as likely to find a decent steak on the Upper East Side as you are to find Donatella Versace in an understated dress. And should the Silk Stocking District ever cast an envious eye towards midtown, we've no doubt the former’s dearth of quality moo-meat would almost certainly be the reason. With the opening of T Bar Steak & Lounge, restaurateur Tony Fortuna hopes to remedy this situation. Offering USDA Choice grade cuts (most heavy-hitters stick with Prime) and a quality if somewhat overpriced and overdone cocktail list, early appraisals have been skeptical at best. But if you don’t set your expectations too high (and you’re not taking cost into consideration) T Bar Steak & Lounge has the capacity to over-deliver. Nicolas Feuillatte, an exemplary champagne choice, is offered by the glass and is a welcome departure from the acid-reflux-inducing options offered at other establishments. And unlike your blind date from last Saturday, the decor is sexier and better looking in person (think Craftsteak without the financial backing). While we’re doubtful anyone will be waxing poetic over T Bar anytime soon, the stiff drinks, late night menu, and lounge-y vibe will almost certainly have the Choice grade UES social-set coming back for more. |
