Sweet & Vicious: Described by at least one patron as “a more laid-back version of Sway,” this lounge off the Bowery is still popular among downtown 20-somethings who like the dark Moroccan vibe of that hotspot but not its ’tude. With an uneven plank floor, exposed brick walls, lots of dark wood, and the only light provided by low-hanging, Turkish-inspired chandeliers and a few scattered votives, Sweet & Vicious is moody but not un-friendly. The fact that a colorful jukebox looks completely out of place can be forgiven because it’s always playing a really good song. Low tables lined by slatted wood benches encourage group socializing. Solo drinkers gravitate to the bar and its friendly tenders, while smokers convene year-round in the “garden” out back. |
